A little history

Situated on Monaco’s iconic Rocher, the Oceanographic Museum, established by H.S.H. Prince Albert II of Monaco’s great-great-grandfather, Prince Albert I, has been devotedly safeguarding the oceans for over a century. It is a globally renowned institution, showcasing more than 6,000 marine specimens.

The Museum’s architectural design, from ornamental details on the facades to interior decorations, beautifully captures the essence of the marine world. Since its inauguration on March 29, 1910, this magnificent Temple of the Sea, encompassing 6,500 square meters of public exhibition space, has set a worldwide standard for cherishing, conserving, and raising awareness about the oceans.
