The value of green bonds issued worldwide increased dramatically in the last few years. In 2014, green bonds worth 37 billion U.S. were issued. In 2021, this figure peaked at approximately 582 billion U.S. dollars, and decreased slightly in 2022, when green bonds issued amounted to 487 billion U.S. dollars.
