The facts: Regulation & participation, how can we protect the planet? The U.S. has voted

When it comes to environmental protectiondata from Statista’s Consumer Insights survey shows that the most common answers among U.S. adults on how best to achieve environmental protection were through enacting stronger punishments for corporations or companies which break the law and casting their ballot wisely.

Just under half of respondents picked these as the options “more likely” than others to help the cause.

Carrying out legal action and closing loop-holes that currently allow corporations or companies to harm the environment also were popular choices, opted for by more than a third of respondents.

Meanwhile, nearly four in 10 supported community participation conservation efforts such as clean-ups and tree planting to make a difference.

By contrast, far fewer respondents thought that unlawful or violent protests or non-violent civil disobedience would be as effective in getting their voices heard, with 12 percent and 21 percent picking the options, respectively. Respondents could pick multiple of the 11 options.
