Prince Albert II Foundation and Vendée Globe Foundation partner to protect oceans

In a significant move for ocean preservation, Prince Albert II of Monaco signed a landmark partnership with the Vendée Globe Foundation on November 8th in Les Sables-d’Olonne. This collaboration aims to combine the power of science, sport, and environmental commitment to better understand and protect marine ecosystems.

During the launch event, Prince Albert highlighted the importance of uniting efforts between the Prince Albert II and Vendée Globe Foundations in combatting marine ecosystem decline, saying, “This partnership reflects our shared commitment to fostering respectful behavior towards the ocean.”

The alliance aligns with the spirit of the Vendée Globe race, a celebrated solo round-the-world sailing challenge that represents values of perseverance, courage, and respect for the ocean.

The partnership will fund several impactful projects in 2024, including support for the Share the Ocean Consortium and collaborations with UNESCO and the IMOCA Globe series. These initiatives are designed to boost scientific research and promote concrete conservation efforts for marine ecosystems.

Prince Albert’s role as Honorary Chairman underscores the scientific mission of the foundation, which will be advised by marine biology expert Dr. Frank Zal, who heads the Scientific Advisory Board.
