Prince Albert II of Monaco spoke at “One Planet – Polar Summit” – The first International summit dedicated to glaciers and poles, which was hosted on November 8, 2023.
(EN) “We can no longer ignore them” were the words of H.S.H. Prince Albert II of Monaco, who spoke at a high-level meeting at the #OnePolarSummit, bringing together Heads of State and Government, in the presence of the President of the French Republic, Mr. Emmanuel Macron.
But what are we called to no longer ignore? The cries of alarm from scientists, the imminent threat of the disappearance of half of our planet’s #glaciers, the rise in temperature in #Arctic two to three times faster than elsewhere, the melting of ice in #Greenland and #Antarctic… These upheavals will have a series of effects on our entire planet, its balances and its ecosystems. These irreversible effects are not to be ignored.
This is why the Principality of #Monaco advocates enhanced and immediate cooperation between nations to face the challenges of glacial regions, and the creation of new #ProtectedMarineAreas in the Southern Ocean.

Mais que sommes-nous appelés à ne plus ignorer ? Les cris d’alarme des scientifiques, la menace imminente de la disparition de la moitié des #glaciers de notre planète, la hausse de la température en #Arctique deux à trois fois plus rapide qu’ailleurs, la fonte des glaces au #Groenland et en #Antarctique… Ces bouleversements vont avoir des effets en série sur l’ensemble de notre Planète, ses équilibres et ses écosystèmes. Des effets irréversibles que le Souverain appelle à ne pas ignorer.
C’est pourquoi la Principauté de #Monaco prône une coopération renforcée et immédiate entre les nations pour faire face aux défis des régions glaciaires, et la création de nouvelles #AiresMarinesProtégées dans l’océan Austral.
