Excerpt message by Nico Rosberg: Wow, what a night! I was super inspired by all of the nominees and award winners at tonight’s GreenTech Festival Green Awards.
Professor Mamphela Ramphele, a renowned anti-apartheid activist and medical doctor, won the Lifetime Achievement Award.
She broke barriers by founding the first primary healthcare initiative in South Africa. Her journey continued as she became the first female co-president of the Club of Rome and served as a Managing Director at the World Bank. Her story is a powerful reminder of the impact one individual can have on the course of history, encouraging us to fight for our values and create meaningful change in our communities.
Fatou Jeng, winner of the Youngster Award, is a youth climate advisor to the UN Secretary-General and founded Clean Earth Gambia, mobilising over 3,000 young Gambians for environmental protection. Her organisation has planted over 35,000 trees in collaboration with the government of The Gambia and partners like UNICEF.
Sublime Systems won the Pioneer Award for their mission to decarbonise cement and impact global CO2 emissions. Their “true-zero” approach avoids fossil-fueled kilns and CO2-heavy limestone feedstock, using a fully electrified electrochemical process. This innovation can reduce the global warming potential of cement in the U.S. by over 90%.
Asterra received the Milestone Award for providing geospatial data-driven platform solutions for water utilities, government agencies, and infrastructure industries. By using Polarimetric Synthetic Aperture Radar data, artificial intelligence, and proprietary technology, ASTERRA has saved over 368 billion gallons of potable water, reduced CO2 emissions by 235,520 metric tons, and saved 920,000 MWH of energy since 2017!
The GreenTech Festival celebrates those who dare to innovate and redefine our future. From revolutionising industrial processes to pioneering sustainable practices, the honorees are making substantial strides towards a greener planet.
