A delegation led by Lionel Beffre, Monaco’s Minister of the Interior, attended the 18th Conference of Ministers Responsible for Sport in Porto, Portugal, from 8 to 10 October 2024. The conference, centered on promoting good governance in sports, brought together 46 Council of Europe Member States as well as Israel, Morocco, the Holy See, and international sports organizations.
During the event, Mr. Beffre emphasized Monaco’s dedication to the principles of good governance, referencing a national bill on sports currently under review. Notably, he was elected Vice-Chair of the Conference, and Monaco was confirmed as the host of the next Ministerial Conference in 2026. This announcement was in line with H.S.H. Prince Albert II’s speech marking the 20th anniversary of Monaco’s accession to the Council of Europe.
Monaco’s upcoming chairmanship of the Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe in the second half of 2026 will include hosting several high-level events in both Strasbourg and Monaco, with the Sports Ministerial Conference as a central focus.
Monaco’s active role in the Enlarged Partial Agreement on Sport (EPAS) was also acknowledged, with its Permanent Representative having chaired the EPAS Governing Board since 2016.
The Minister was accompanied by H.E. Mr Gabriel Revel, Ambassador and Monaco’s Permanent Representative to the Council of Europe; Florian Botto (First Secretary) and Ninon Dana-Hattab (Head) of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation.
