G-Star utilizes mineral dyes in the Dyed by Minerals Collection
Mineral dyes, also referred to as natural dyes or earth pigments, are dyes made from naturally occurring minerals, rocks, and elements found in the Earth’s crust. Mineral dyes offer a more sustainable and environmentally friendly alternative to synthetic dyes, which are derived from petrochemicals and can have detrimental effects on the environment and human health. Because of this, the use of earth pigments in fashion has steadily increased in the last couple of years. One recent example is G-Star’s Dyed by Minerals collection.
The new capsule sees the brand collaborating with model and activist Rola. For the denim garments, G-Star uses volcanic rocks and soil, and a cold-dyeing method which is effective in reducing energy use. The cotton is also 75% regenerative and 25% recycled.
