Marine plastic cleanup initiatives

“The Ocean Cleanup Interceptor 020” will be deployed in Indonesia

The Ocean Cleanup Interceptor 020 is set to be launched by the organization by the end of 2023 in a bid to help reduce the amount of plastic entering the sea in Indonesia. The new deployment is part of a larger initiative thanks to the Global Implementation Partnership that was created in 2021 with Coca-Cola along with additional financial support from ThatGamingCompany and True Venture. The Interceptor 020 will be deployed on the Cisadane River where it will help to reduce marine plastic pollution by 70% by 2025.

Director General of Water Resources, Ministry of Public Works and Housing of Indonesia Jarot Widyoko spoke on the deployment of The Ocean Cleanup Interceptor 020 saying, “We are pleased to support the involvement of The Ocean Cleanup and the Government of the Netherlands to deploy the Interceptor on the Cisadane River. This is a step forward towards contributing together with the Government of Tangerang Regency to reduce the plastic waste from rivers into the ocean.”
