Ryanair’s Emission Reduction Targets Approved by Science Based Targets Initiative
Ryanair has announced that its near-term emission reduction target has been formally validated by the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi). The airline’s Director of Sustainability and Finance, Thomas Fowler, highlighted Ryanair’s commitment to decarbonization, which is supported by the increased use of sustainable aviation fuels and the addition of fuel-efficient Boeing MAX-10 aircraft to its fleet. These aircraft offer 21% more seating capacity while reducing CO2 emissions by 20%.
The target, aligned with the SBTi Aviation pathway, follows a 1.5°C trajectory, and commits the Ryanair Group to reducing its carbon intensity by 27% by 2031. The validation process was supported by Davy Horizons and confirms that Ryanair’s goals are consistent with the emissions reductions needed to meet the Paris Agreement objectives.
