Visit of H.S.H. Prince Albert II to Palermo for Marine Science Discussions

On Sunday, October 13, H.S.H. Prince Albert II traveled to Palermo to attend a meeting of the Board of the International Commission for the Scientific Exploration of the Mediterranean Sea (CIESM).

The meeting was held on the eve of the opening of the 43rd Congress of CIESM, set to take place in the Sicilian capital.

Prince Albert II was welcomed at the historic Palazzo Chiaramonte-Steri by Professor Massimo Midiri, Rector of the University of Palermo. Accompanying the Prince were H.E. Anne Eastwood, Monaco’s Ambassador to Italy; Laura Giugliano, Director of CIESM; and Tidiani Couma, Monaco’s National Delegate.

During the meeting, the Prince presided over discussions with CIESM board members, focusing on recent activities and exploring ways to strengthen scientific cooperation on Mediterranean maritime challenges.

Following the meeting, Prince Albert II and his delegation toured the Palazzo Steri, a historic building dating back to the 14th century and now home to the Rectorate of the University of Palermo. This iconic monument, a significant example of Catalan Gothic architecture, offers insights into Sicily’s medieval history and the period of the Inquisition.
