How small island states use nature-based solutions for climate resilience and economic growth

Small Island Developing States (SIDS), home to 65 million people and a wealth of biodiversity, contribute less than 1% of global greenhouse gas emissions yet face the brunt of climate change impacts. These vulnerable nations are increasingly susceptible to natural disasters, coastal flooding, and rising debt.

Marine Scientist Dr. Deborah Brosnan highlights that nature-based solutions, such as restoring coral reefs and other marine ecosystems, could be pivotal in building both environmental and financial resilience. By engaging governments, the hospitality industry, and local communities, these efforts aim to protect vulnerable coastlines while fostering a thriving blue economy.

Nature-based solutions not only safeguard against climate risks but also open up opportunities for sustainable economic development, showing the potential of a collaborative approach to preserving the planet and its people.
