Earthshot Prize 2024: Prince William’s Vision to “Change the World for Good”
Prince William celebrated this year’s Earthshot Prize winners at an exciting awards ceremony in Cape Town, urging global action to join the “movement for change” and work towards repairing the planet over the next decade.
Hosted by Billy Porter and Bonang Matheba, the fourth edition of the Earthshot Prize honored innovative projects addressing critical environmental challenges. Winners in five categories, chosen from 2,500 global applicants, each received £1 million to scale their groundbreaking solutions. There were fifteen finalists, from countries including France, Kenya, Indonesia, the UK and Nepal.
Our aim was to find solutions to repair our planet and provide real hope for the future.

Earthshot 2024 winners from 15 finalists:
- Protect and Restore Nature: Altyn Dala Conservation Initiative (Kazakhstan) – Rescued the critically endangered Saiga antelope from extinction.
- Clean Our Air: Green Africa Youth Organization (GAYO) (Africa) – Empowering communities with circular waste management and behavioral change to combat pollution.
- Revive Our Oceans: High Ambition Coalition for Nature and People (Global) – A multinational effort to protect 30% of land and oceans by 2030.
- Build a Waste-free World: Keep IT Cool | Earthshot Prize Winner 24 (Kenya) – Solar-powered refrigeration systems to reduce post-harvest crop waste for farmers.
- Fix Our Climate: Advanced Thermovoltaic Systems (USA) – Converts industrial waste heat from steel and cement production into electricity.
Prince William emphasized the transformative potential of these innovations, calling them a blueprint for global progress. With high-profile presenters like Heidi Klum and Winnie Harlow, the Earthshot Prize 2024 spotlighted the urgent need for scalable solutions to restore the planet.
We want to make this the decade in which we transform the world for good, one solution at a time, from the ground up.
