Princess Charlene raising awareness about water safety among Principality school children

My foundation is based on helping children, and I hand-pick projects that are close to my heart and home.”

The Princess Charlene of Monaco Foundation introduced “Water Safety Days” in 2016, held in June, to create a fun-filled day of activities promoting swimming, water safety, and the values of sports for school children.

The concept was first initiated in 2013 in France. The activities are planned collaboratively between partners and involve workshops covering inshore rope rescue, rescue tubes, Nipper Boards, drowning prevention, and CPR.

“The Water Safety Days embody the educational missions and vision of H.S.H. Princess Charlene of Monaco Foundation. They were initially organized in Capbreton, France, in 2013, and later became a regular event on Monaco’s calendar. The format was also taken abroad, particularly in 2019 in Bora-Bora, French Polynesia, with the efforts of Stéphanie Geyer Barneix and her team of lifesaving sports champions.” In 2021 and 2022, the Water Safety Days were held in Corsica, specifically in the cities of Calvi and Saint-Florent.

Over the past decade, more than 1,300 children have participated, leading to increased awareness of drowning prevention and water safety. The program instills essential skills and empowers children to feel safer in water environments.

The Foundation aims to expand the initiative to more countries in the future to continue educating and inspiring young generations in water safety.
