Cillian Murphy first Irish-born star to win the Oscar for Best Actor

Oppenheimer’s Cillian Murphy has become the first Irish-born star to win the Oscar for Best Actor at the Academy Awards in Los Angeles.

With Oppenheimer the big winner on the night picking up seven Academy Awards, Murphy accepted his Oscar to a standing ovation.

Cillian Murphy has won the Academy Award for Best Actor for his role in “Oppenheimer,” directed by Christopher Nolan. In this three-hour drama, Murphy portrays J. Robert Oppenheimer, the father of the atomic bomb.

His performance is notable for its internal subtleties and the portrayal of Oppenheimer’s ideological conflicts, which play out through nuanced expressions.

On top of winning his first Oscar off of his first nomination, Murphy also picked up the Golden Globe, SAG award, and BAFTA for his performance. Oppenheimer marks his sixth collaboration — and first lead role — with Nolan, with whom he also worked on Batman Begins, The Dark Knight, The Dark Knight RisesInception, and Dunkirk.
