(Excerpt from LinkedIn) In a delightful evening with my tribe, the Tatler Gen.T honourees, and the Honorary Consul of Monaco, we delved into discussions on authentic leadership, effective communication, and the essential self-care needed in the 21st century. Amidst these conversations, we discovered Monaco’s impressive stance on sustainable tourism. Despite its small size—just 2.02 square kilometers and a flag resembling Indonesia’s—Monaco leads globally in eco-friendly tourism practices.
Monaco is setting the standard in responsible and sustainable tourism. With a focus on eco-friendly practices and conservation, the principality is leading the global conversation on how to balance tourism with environmental stewardship. Monaco’s innovative approaches and commitment to sustainability are transforming it into a model for other destinations aiming to protect their natural resources while welcoming visitors.
Apart from famous landmarks such as the Monte Carlo, we learn from the #VisitMonaco team that it also boasts:
1. Massive Green Certification areas: Majority of the hotels in Monaco have obtained environmental certifications such as Green Key or EarthCheck, ensuring they adhere to aspirational sustainable practices with targets set on energy efficiency, water conservation, and waste management.
2. Renewable Energy Initiatives: Monaco has invested heavily in renewable energy sources, including solar and wind energy. The country aims to reduce its carbon footprint and increase the share of renewables in its energy mix as it works towards being carbon neutral by 2050
3. Public Transport: The public transportation system in Monaco is efficient and eco-friendly, with expansion on electric buses and bikes readily available for rent. The country promotes the use of public transport to reduce traffic congestion and pollution.
4. Marine Protection: Monaco is a leader in marine conservation. The government has established huge marine protected areas and supports initiatives to protect marine biodiversity 🐟 and combat ocean pollution
5. Sustainable Events: Monaco hosts several key annual events focused on sustainability, such as the Ever Monaco exhibition, which showcases the best on RE, eco-friendly vehicles, and #greentech. The principality ensures that these events are organized with minimal environmental impact.
