California solar panels in California constructed above canals to save 63 bn gallons of water

Solar panels on water canals is it a no-brainer?

A solar panel pilot project is underway in CA of solar canal systems, reducing evaporation while generating power.

A study by the University of California estimates that 63 billion gallons of water could be saved by covering California’s 6,437 kilometres of canals with solar panels, which could also generate 13 gigawatts of power.

This is an interesting prospective solution for water and renewable energy in the West.
