Acura is preparing to debut a new electric SUV concept at the 2024 Monterey Car Week, which runs from August 9-18. The teaser photo reveals little about the vehicle, but Acura has confirmed that it will be built on a newly developed, in-house EV platform. This platform will serve as the foundation for a production model to be manufactured at a revamped Marysville Auto Plant in Ohio.
Acura and its parent company Honda have been relatively slow to introduce significant electric vehicles in the U.S. market. However, they are now accelerating their electric vehicle strategy. The 2024 Acura ZDX and Honda Prologue SUVs mark the beginning of this shift, although they use General Motors’ Ultium EV platform and battery technology.
Looking ahead, Acura and Honda will use their own platform, which will feature an electric and electronic (E&E) architecture. This platform will incorporate Honda’s own vehicle operating system, a new generation of user interface, and digital services. It is designed to support a range of vehicle segments, with initial models expected to fall into the mid-to-large categories, aiming for a range of over 300 miles.
The first vehicle to utilize this new platform will be part of Honda’s upcoming 0 (Zero) Series, with the first model anticipated to launch in the U.S. in 2026. The Acura SUV concept teased at Monterey Car Week is expected to be among the first to market once this platform goes into production. The concept will be showcased alongside prestigious events like The Quail and the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance, marking a significant step in Acura’s EV evolution.
