This weekend, “Monaco’s CleanUp Day” organized by the Monaco Town Hall brought together around a hundred people in the Principality to join “World CleanUp Day”. Leading the group, Prince Albert II and Hereditary Prince Jacques and Princess Gabriella participated in collecting waste, equipped with a trash bag and gloves.
World CleanUp Day is a global social action program initiated in 2008. The program includes 71 million volunteers and has cleared 325K of waste.
Monaco’s CleanUp day collected 65 kilos, in total, alongside the 197 other countries participating in World CleanUp Day, Sept 16th.
The group started at the Monte-Carlo market, stopped at the new eco-friendly restaurant “Conscientiae” and finished at the Monaco Town Hall.
Plastic, glass, cigarette butts and even single-use cigarettes are the new flagship product among smokers. David Gamba, responsible for waste prevention and recycling, reminds us that they are an “ecological aberration”.
The volunteers collected 50 kilos of household waste, 10 kilos of recyclable materials and 5 kilos of glass from the streets of the Principality.
The program focuses on addressing the global solid waste problem, including marine debris. Over the years, it has grown into a powerful movement, mobilizing millions of volunteers worldwide to clean their communities and create a more sustainable world.
Monaco, under the leadership of Prince Albert II, is actively involved in environmental preservation and sustainable living efforts. One of these notable initiatives is World CleanUp Day. By hosting such events within Monaco, Prince Albert sets a positive example for other nations to follow, encouraging cleanliness and sustainability in a practical way.
